Celebrating Sherko Bekas: Kurdish poems collection published in Arabic in Cairo

The national centre for translation in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, has translated and published a collection of poems by the famous Kurdish poet Sherko Bekas.

The national centre for translation is one of the active publishing houses in Egypt and is run by the well-known Arab writer, Jabber Osfur.

Most of the poems have been translated into Arabic by Azad Barzinji, a Kurd.

Speaking to AKnews, Bekas said “publishing this poetry anthology in Egypt is a cause of happiness for me and for Kurdish literature. This will serve Kurdish literature in different ways.”

Meanwhile, Barzinji, the book’s translator, said this is the first time that a poems’ collection book has been published in such a big size by the national centre for translation in Egypt.

“This will hopefully bring a new fame to Kurdish literature in the Arab cultural milieu because unfortunately most Arab readers and intellectuals know very little about Kurdish literature and the publication of such works will narrow the gap between the two sides,” Barzinji said.
